As stated on the 1960’s page, the later 1960’s and the short time period of the 1970’s are the best researched and authenticated signature types for Lyndon Johnson. The 1970’s is primarily considered the retirement years and was the period when he wrote his Presidential memoirs titled A Vantage Point published in 1971. Many of his Presidential memoirs were signed with a Presidential Bookplate pasted on the inside cover of the book. These bookplates are considered some of the best and most authentic of LBJ signatures. These particular signatures are also some of the last “full signatures” he penned. The most common form of Lyndon Johnson signature from the 1970’s were his initials. It is believed that with declining health, Lyndon Johnson resigned his signature to initials because it took him less time and strength to write.
Should you have a Lyndon Johnson signed item from this decade, I would love to see it and add it to the database of known examples.
